First prepare the Basic Punch.
To do so, pour cranberry juice, cider and ginger ale into a punch bowl.
Halve the orange, squeezing one half of the juice.
Cut the other half into slices and float them in the punch.
Now prepare the Berry Ice Ring.
Arrange the strawberries in a ring-style gelatin mold or bundt pan of the size that can fit inside your punch bowl.
Fill the mold with water, then freeze.
Unmold the ring.
To do so, warm the pan with water.
Place the unmolded ring, flat side down in the punch.
Add a hint of anise to the punch.
First simmer anise and reserved cranberry juice together in a small saucepan.
Remove from heat and pour into a small bowl.
Let cool to room temperature and then refrigerate until cold.
Stir this into the punch.
